Electro-Diesel locomotive 73138 was privately preserved and restored by members of The AC Locomotive Group, and until 2006 was based at Barrow Hill.

73138 visited the 2005 Open Days at Crewe Works in the company of many of ACLG's other locomotives, then paid a visit to the Community Railfest at Norwich.

In 2006 73138 was moved to Long Marston for further use there.

In May 2008 the loco was moved to the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire to take part in their Diesel Gala in late May/early June. However a shortage of other motive power meant that 73138 also worked a full diagram of trains on 26th May 2008.
