| I have been heavily involved with the restoration of The AC Locomotive Group's 86101 to main line running order. Here are a few photographs taken along the way. For more information and photos please go to the Group's website www.aclocogroup.co.uk.
86101 is the first preserved AC Electric locomotive to gain approval for main line running, the first preserved loco to run at 110mph and the first preserved loco to run in push-pull service with a Driving Van Trailer (DVT). A contract was won for the powering of four Hull Trains weekend passenger workings between London Kings Cross and Doncaster to cover for a missing HT class 222 unit; this requires running for long periods at 110mph on the busy East Coast Mainline and also requires the loco's TDM push-pull working capability. First service train was 11th January 2008 and operation continued into April 2008. In June 2008 86101 started work for First GBRf as the standby locomotive for the Royal Mail Class 325 workings between Wembley, Warrington and Glasgow. The loco is normally based at Dallam RMT near Warrington and hauls the Class 325 sets as required. These pictures show 86101: a. during restoration work at Barrow Hill; b. undergoing initial testing and test runs from Crewe; c. on the first railtour, from Carlisle to Crewe and return; d. on a test run in advance of service running for Hull Trains; e. working for Hull Trains on Kings Cross - Doncaster service trains; f. at Carstairs during 87002's first main line test run; g. working for First GBRf on the Royal Mail trains. Please click here for photos of 86101 working Pathfinder Railtours' "Atomic Harbour Master" railtour in October 2007. |
